1. JPMorgan Chase

Founded in 2000 after multiple mergers, it is considered the largest bank in the United States. It has more than 5,000 branches nationwide and about 17,000 ATMs. Its operations extend to more than 100 countries. Its origins date back to 1799 when the Bank of The Manhattan Company opened its doors in New York.

2. Bank of America

It is headquartered in North Carolina. It is considered the second-largest bank holding company in the United States in terms of assets. It manages some 5600 branches and more than 16,000 ATMs nationwide. Founded in 1874 as NationsBank, it changed its name in 1998 after absorbing Bank of America of San Francisco.

3. Citigroup

Or simply Citi was created in 1998 after the merger of the holding company Citicorp with Travelers Group, Inc. The institution has more than 2,600 branches in nearly 20 countries. It is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its subsidiary PNC Bank operates about 2700 branches and 9600 ATMs in the United States. “PNC” stands for the institution’s parents, Pittsburgh National Corporation and Provident National Corporation, which merged in 1983.
